Our Republic Scotland to Co-Host Republic Day Rally in Edinburgh

Edinburgh, Scotland – 25th April 2025 – Our Republic, Scotland’s campaign for an elected head of state, is proud to co-host Republic Day 2025 in Edinburgh, a public rally on Saturday 10 May from 2:00–4:00 PM on Calton Hill. Organised in partnership with Republic Edinburgh and Republic UK, this national day of action brings together campaigners and supporters to demand a modern, democratic alternative to the monarchy.

The rally will feature a line-up of engaging speakers, live performances, and peaceful protest—all aimed at building visibility and momentum for the growing republican movement in Scotland. Following successful events since 2022, this year’s rally will continue to blend serious political messaging with a welcoming, festival-like atmosphere. But beyond the banners and speeches, the message is clear: Scotland deserves a head of state chosen by the people—not born into power. Our Republic believes that true democracy means accountability, transparency, and the ability to remove leaders who fail us. The monarchy, by its nature, undermines these principles.

Tristan Grayford, committee member of Our Republic highlights that, "at a time where everyone is being expected to tighten their belts, see their rights chipped away, there is one family that will never be asked to sacrifice - The Windsors. Immune from our laws, shielded from transparency, rejecting the accountability to the people that is the bedrock of our democracy."

"Two years into his reign Charles continues to cling to a past we need to leave behind. Handing out titles and favours to his family, setting an example for our political elites that they should be entitled to take whatever they can. The continued claim to unaccountable, undemocratic power by our aristocracy, from the Lords to the Crown, is toxic to our society - It's time we demanded better; it's time we demanded an end to this."

The Edinburgh rally joins UK-wide events in London and Cardiff, with growing support and declining royal approval—especially in Scotland. Media are invited to attend the event and speak with campaigners, organisers, and attendees. Our Republic is also available for comment in advance.
